Zheng Hitless, Streak Ends at 22
Tuesday, May 27th , 2149
For 22 straight games, Zhao-ji Zheng tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy.
Well, the 21-year-old Leon Aztecs shortstop can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the Galveston Jubilee. The Jubilee held him hitless in 4 at-bats at Express Park and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 22.
There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Aztecs took the win by the score of 2-1.
"I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now."
This year, Zheng has socked 59 hits in 189 at-bats for a .312 average with 5 home runs. He is getting on base at a .375 pace and his totals also include 18 RBIs and 20 runs scored.
