Vlasblom Goes on Rampage Against Leprechauns
Saturday, July 3rd , 2151
Even as a kid, Joeri Vlasblom said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Eugene Ballpark, Vlasblom showed how well he learned that lesson.
The 22-year-old third baseman had 6 hits in 7 at-bats for the Mackinac Trappers, helping his team knock off the South Bend Leprechauns by a score of 22-0.
"They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did."
Joeri Vlasblom singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run double in the 4th, singled in the 5th, flied out in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
This season, Vlasblom is batting .256 with 6 home runs. He has scored 32 runs and driven in 30.
