Jamal Kirinyaga said with his contract set to expire, it was important he put up a big season with the Daegu Monks. He did exactly that and has won the 2150 Intercontinental Baseball League Reliever of the Year Award.

"When your contract is about to expire and you're maybe going to become a free agent, you really want to show the league that you've still got it," the 31-year-old said. "I think I proved myself and should be able to get a pretty good contract now."

His season saw opponents hit only .202 against him, while he fashioned a 2.13 ERA over 76 innings of work. He made 64 relief appearances and had 38 saves, with 27 strikeouts, 50 walks and a record of 10-6.

He received 17 first place votes out of a possible 20. Cosmo Laureano of the Oslo Voyageurs finished second in voting with 3 first place votes, while Frederick Segala of the Rome Generals finished third.
