Thunderbirds Lose Despite Valiant Effort by Trung
|
The Santo Domingo Palmchats overcame a good performance by El Paso center fielder Thao Trung to knock off El Paso, 8-6, at Estadio Santo Domingo. Trung was 3-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Pavlya Lazarenko, who finished 3rd in the ABL in ERA with 3.02 in 2139, was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, with no walks and 2 strikeouts. Their 58-49 record puts the Palmchats second in the Americas Baseball League Latin American Division.
Luys Pegas, who finished 4th in the ABL in wins above replacement with 7.6 in 2148, helped out the Santo Domingo cause in the bottom of the fourth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the shortstop was 1 for 4 with a double.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Palmchats manager Huck L. Berry. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
