El Paso Bats Go Silent in 2-0 Loss
|
Starting pitcher Mayne Rippon gave the Chicago Beefs a rock-solid effort. The Limerick, Ireland native helped his team defeat the El Paso Thunderbirds, 2-0, at Beefs Stadium. Rippon, now 8-12, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 2, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Chicago, at 74-47, sits in second place in the Americas Baseball League North American Division.
Aniceto Palmeira had a big run-scoring double for the Beefs in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Dae-il Kim, who is tied for 6th in the ABL in wins with 11, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Beefs ahead, 2-0.
"Makes our job easier," said Palmeira, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
