No Hits for Funga, Streak Ends at 20
Sunday, August 24th , 2149
For 20 straight games, Zaki Funga tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy.
Well, the 23-year-old Curitiba Toucans second baseman can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the Granma Alazanes. The Alazanes held him hitless in 3 at-bats at Foxes Ballpark and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 20.
There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Toucans took the win by the score of 4-3.
"I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now."
Funga is currently hitting .295 with 5 home runsand 52 RBIs, while scoring 63 runs.
